Plain-language summary: PriceBack helps you reclaim money when prices drop after you buy. These terms explain the rules for using the app. This summary is for convenience only — the full text below is what governs your use. By installing or using PriceBack Canada (the “App”) you agree to these terms.
1Who we are
PriceBack Canada is operated by PriceBack Canada (the “Operator” / “we” / “us”). Contact: support@priceback.ca.
2The service
PriceBack helps you track price drops on items you’ve already bought from Canadian retailers and surfaces refund opportunities under each retailer’s published price-adjustment policy. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by Costco, Walmart, Best Buy, Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Staples, Sport Chek, or any other retailer mentioned in the App. We display and link to publicly available retailer prices and policies; the retailers themselves decide whether to honour any specific price-adjustment request.
3Account & eligibility
- You must be at least 13 years old to use PriceBack. If you live in a jurisdiction with a higher age of digital consent, that local minimum applies.
- You agree to provide accurate information during sign-up and to keep your account credentials secure.
- One account per person. You may use the App on multiple devices that belong to you.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account. Notify us at support@priceback.ca if you suspect unauthorised access.
4Credits, subscriptions, claim commissions, and refunds
PriceBack uses a credit-based pay-per-use model alongside an optional monthly subscription. The full catalog and current prices are listed in the App; the rules below apply regardless of pricing changes.
4.1 What you pay for
- Free trial. Every new install gets 75 free credits, granted once at install. The trial is a lifetime allowance per device (not a monthly reset) and is enforced via a device fingerprint (see § 4.7). At 1 credit per scan, 75 credits cover up to 75 receipt scans, or roughly $5 of refund claims at the current 15-credit-per-$1 rate, or any mix.
- Credits are the in-App unit of consumption. Receipt scans cost 1 credit each. Filing a price-drop claim costs credits proportional to the estimated dollar savings (per-dollar rate shown at claim time; currently 15 credits per $1 of estimated savings, subject to change with notice in-App).
- Credit packs (one-time, consumable). The live catalog at the time of writing is Starter $3 (300 credits), Pro $5 (600 credits), and Max $10 (1,400 credits). Bigger packs offer a lower effective per-credit price. Credits granted by a pack do not expire and are not transferable between accounts. Current SKUs and prices always control over this enumeration — the canonical catalog lives in the App.
- Subscriptions (auto-renewing). The current subscription offering is Unlimited at $4.99 / month — unlimited scans, 0 % commission on claims, plus the features listed on the in-App paywall. Allowance does not roll over; any unused portion is forfeited at the end of each billing month. Legacy Starter / Pro monthly subscriptions purchased before 2026-05 remain in effect at their original price but are not offered to new users.
- Commission on claim payouts. When you successfully claim a refund identified through the App, PriceBack charges a commission expressed as a percentage of the dollar savings. The applicable rate is determined by your active subscription tier and the most favourable credit pack you have ever purchased on this account, whichever is lower. Current rates are displayed in-App and on the paywall before purchase.
- Spend order. When an action costs credits, the App spends your subscription allowance first and then your pack credits.
- Consumption is non-refundable. A scan is consumed the moment OCR runs, even if you later discard the receipt — we incur a real cost on each OCR call. A claim is consumed when its associated credit charge has been deducted. We do not refund partially or fully spent credits.
- Price-tag scan rewards (earning credits). You can earn credits by scanning in-warehouse Costco price tags that carry a genuine, unexpired instant-savings discount. These rewards are deferred and verification-gated: a credit is granted only once the savings is verified (a configurable number of independent shoppers report the same price, or our team confirms it), and at most once per product per warehouse per week — if that savings is already verified at your warehouse, later scans of it earn nothing. Tags with no savings, or with savings whose expiry date has passed, are still welcome in the price pool but earn no credit. Rewards are capped per account (currently 5 credits per week and 15 per month from price-tag scans; the live caps are shown in-App and may change with notice). Repeatedly submitting the same tag earns a credit only the first time and may flag your account for review.
4.2 Billing and auto-renewal of subscriptions
- Subscriptions and credit packs are billed via the App Store / Google Play, with a subscription-management provider acting on our behalf. We do not handle your payment instrument directly and do not see your card number.
- Subscriptions auto-renew by default at the start of each billing period at the then-current price for the tier, charged to the payment method on file with Apple / Google. This is the standard auto-renewable IAP behaviour; neither PriceBack nor Apple / Google can charge you outside of it without your explicit consent.
- How to cancel. You can turn auto-renewal OFF at any time from your store’s subscription settings (Apple ID → Subscriptions, or Google Play → Subscriptions). The App provides a one-tap deep link to the right screen under Profile → Manage Subscription. To avoid the next charge, cancel at least 24 hours before the renewal date, as required by both store policies. Cancellation does not refund the current period; access continues until the period ends and then the subscription lapses.
- Renewal status surface. The App surfaces your current auto-renewal state (ON / OFF), the next renewal date, and the platform deep-link inside Manage Subscription, so you can verify renewal at a glance.
- Trial period. If a subscription is offered with a free trial in a future promotion, the trial auto-converts to a paid subscription unless cancelled before it ends; the trial terms shown at sign-up control.
- Refunds for in-App purchases are governed by the App Store / Google Play refund policies. We do not issue separate refunds outside of those channels.
4.3 Auto-reload of credit packs (opt-in via pack purchase)
PriceBack offers an auto-reload feature for users on the pay-per-use credit model. The feature is OFF on a fresh install, and is automatically turned ON the first time you buy a credit pack (with that pack set as your top-up choice). You can flip it back OFF at any time from Profile → Auto-reload at 0; the choice is local to your device.
- What it does. When auto-reload is ON and your credit balance reaches 0 in the middle of an action (e.g. starting a scan), the App automatically launches the App Store / Google Play purchase confirmation dialog for the credit pack you have selected as your top-up choice. Once you confirm in the OS dialog, the pack is charged to your payment method on file and the credits are granted via the normal RevenueCat purchase flow.
- No silent charges. Apple App Store § 3.1.2 and Google Play Billing both require your explicit confirmation for every consumable in-App purchase. Auto-reload only auto-prompts — it cannot silently charge you. You see the standard OS purchase sheet (with the price and your payment method) and tap to confirm or to cancel. Dismissing the dialog cancels the top-up and the App falls back to its standard paywall.
- Choice of pack. Your selected top-up pack is shown under Profile → Auto-reload at 0 → Top-up pack. The default is the pack you last purchased; if you have never purchased one, the cheapest currently-available pack is used.
- How to turn it off. Flip the Profile → Auto-reload at 0 toggle to OFF. The change is immediate; no further auto-prompts will fire. Any credits already purchased remain on your account.
- Low-balance warnings. The App also shows a low-balance banner on the Home screen when your remaining credits drop below a configurable threshold (default 20). The banner is informational only.
- Subscribers. Auto-reload is meaningless for users on a subscription with unlimited scans, and the App will not trigger an auto-prompt for them even if the toggle is somehow left ON.
4.4 Quebec consumer disclosures (Loi sur la protection du consommateur)
- Each credit-pack purchase is a discrete consumer contract concluded at the moment of OS confirmation, with no remote or pre-authorised charges. Auto-reload triggers a fresh OS confirmation per top-up; it is not a contract of service à exécution successive under LPC § 230.
- The Unlimited subscription is a contract of service à exécution successive. You may end your participation at any time as described in § 4.2; charges already incurred for the current period are not refundable except via the platform’s own policy.
- The applicable language for Quebec consumers is French. A French version of these terms is available at terms-fr, and the Privacy Policy is available in French at privacy-fr.
4.5 Currency and taxes
All prices in the App are shown in your store’s local currency as configured on your Apple ID / Google account. Canadian users are charged in CAD; taxes (GST/HST/QST as applicable) are collected by Apple / Google and remitted in accordance with their tax policies.
4.6 Price changes
We may change pack prices, subscription prices, commission rates, or the per-dollar claim credit cost. Changes that affect future purchases take effect at the time of the next purchase and the new price is shown in the OS confirmation dialog before any charge. For active subscribers, any price increase is communicated in-App and via the platform’s own renewal-price-change notice; you can decline by turning off auto-renewal before the next renewal.
4.7 Free-trial and abuse
Free-trial limits and anonymous free-tier allowances are enforced via a device fingerprint that survives reinstalls. Attempting to bypass them (factory-resetting, multi-accounting, spoofing device IDs, etc.) is a violation of these terms and may result in suspension or account termination.
4.8 Price-Drop Guarantee
Subscribers to Unlimited on the annual plan may qualify for the Price-Drop Guarantee: if PriceBack finds no price drop on your receipts during a qualifying annual year and the other conditions are met (including at least 15 receipts scanned in the year, no refund, and auto-renew on when we check), we add one year of Unlimited to your account at no charge. The guarantee year is provided by PriceBack — it is not an App Store or Google Play purchase — so your store subscription keeps auto-renewing unless you turn it off; if you are charged anyway, the guarantee year starts when that paid year ends. The Price-Drop Guarantee terms set out the full conditions and form part of these Terms.
5Your content
You retain ownership of every receipt and image you scan. By using the App you grant PriceBack a non-exclusive licence to process that content solely to deliver the service (OCR, price comparison, claim assistance). We do not display or share your receipts publicly.
If you opt in to Share Costco prices, you grant us a perpetual, royalty-free, anonymised licence to aggregate the (warehouse, SKU, unit price, date) tuples extracted from your scans into our pricing database, and to make that aggregated data available to other users. The licence covers only the aggregated tuple — never your receipt photo, identity, or other contents.
6Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract source code from the App except as expressly allowed by law.
- Resell, redistribute, or commercially exploit the App or any data obtained from it.
- Submit fraudulent receipts or fabricated price observations.
- Use the App to harass, defame, or harm retailers or other users.
- Interfere with the App’s operation (rate-limit evasion, security probing of the backend, exfiltrating other users’ data).
- Use the App in any jurisdiction where its use is prohibited.
We may suspend or terminate your account, with or without notice, if you violate these rules.
7Price-adjustment claims
PriceBack identifies potential price-adjustment opportunities and provides talking-points for contacting the retailer. We do not file claims on your behalf, do not guarantee any refund, and do not represent that any retailer will honour a claim presented through the App. The decision to issue a refund or credit is the retailer’s alone, governed by their own policy in effect at the time of your claim.
Examples of factors outside our control: a retailer changing its price-adjustment window after you bought; a regional price difference; an item being on clearance and excluded from adjustments; the retailer requesting documentation we don’t generate.
8Third-party services
The App connects to third-party services — sign-in providers (Google, Apple), retailers, the app stores, and the service-provider categories listed in the Privacy Policy. Their terms apply to your use of those services. We do not control them and are not responsible for their behaviour.
9Disclaimers
The App is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and accuracy of data. OCR is imperfect; verify any flagged price drop against the retailer’s current price before filing a claim. Pricing data may be stale, incomplete, or wrong.
10Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, PriceBack’s liability under or in connection with these terms is limited to the greater of: (a) the amount you have paid for PriceBack subscriptions in the 12 months preceding the claim, or (b) CAD $100. In no event are we liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, including lost profits or lost data, even if advised of the possibility.
Some jurisdictions don’t allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of incidental or consequential damages; those exclusions may not apply to you to the extent they conflict with applicable law.
11Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold PriceBack harmless from any claim, demand, or expense (including legal fees) arising from your violation of these terms, your misuse of the App, or your violation of any third party’s rights.
12Changes
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you in-app of material changes and post the new effective date above. Continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
13Termination
You may stop using the App at any time. You may delete your account by emailing support@priceback.ca or using Profile → Reset all data. We may suspend or terminate your access for any breach of these terms or if continued operation becomes commercially unreasonable; in the latter case we will give reasonable notice in-app.
14Governing law & dispute resolution
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. The courts located in Ottawa, Ontario have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
If you are a consumer resident in Quebec, the laws of the Province of Quebec apply where mandatory, and you may bring proceedings in your district of residence as permitted by Quebec consumer protection law.
15Apple-specific terms
If you obtained the App from the Apple App Store, the following also applies:
- These terms are between you and PriceBack Canada only, not Apple. Apple is not responsible for the App or its content.
- Your licence to use the App on Apple devices is the standard Apple end-user licence (Schedule 2 of the App Store EULA) except where these terms grant additional rights.
- Apple is a third-party beneficiary of these terms and may enforce them against you.
- Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the App.
